He completed primary and secondary school (1938) in Nagykikinda, then became a university student of engineering in Budapest. He graduated from the School of Journalism in Belgrade. In 1964, he earned a doctorate in political sciences in Novi Sad (Minorities in Yugoslavia). Between 1944 and 1957, he was the political and ideological censor for Magyar Szó. From 1948, he served as the editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper. From 1956 to 1959, he was the general director of the Forum publishing house. Between 1959 and 1961, he was employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1961 to 1963, he was a provincial party official. Between 1963 and 1971, he was a political official in Belgrade. From 1971 to 1989, he was an extraordinary university professor in Novi Sad. Between 1971 and 1990, he was the editor-in-chief of Létünk.
After his death, his residential house in Subotica became home to the Rehák College. In 1995, the Hungarian Research Scientific Society established the László Rehák Award.
