BEÁTA THOMKA was born in Debeljača in 1949. She graduated from high school in Novi Sad. She completed her university studies at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. Since 1975, she has been an assistant professor at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature. Her critiques, essays, and studies have been published since 1968. Her writings have appeared in Új Symposion, Híd, Magyar Szó, as well as in the journals and newspapers Polja, Književna reč, and Delo. She received the Sinkó Award in 1976 for her critical work.
