Few have remembered our ancestors, who were swept away by the emigration fever of 1882-83 to the bend of the Lower Danube. Yet it was they who, with the immense power of the desire to live, to start anew, to create a home, clung together in their despair and fought against the formidable floodplains of the Danube. They drained endless swamps and lowlands. They built villages on marshes and bogs: Székelykeve, Hertelendyfalva, Sándoregyháza. They stood their ground even during the seven lean years at the turn of the millennium, but now in diminished numbers. They, who once faced the specter of overpopulation! Their goal, according to their faith, remains unchanged: survival. Their motto: "To live - on the back of the ice and..." They deserve attention, let's visit them!
