Ki kicsoda 2004

The contemporary public picture gallery and archive in the reader's hands is a pioneering undertaking in terms of presenting the intellectual life and defining personalities of Hungarians in Vojvodina. The compilation of the volume took almost four years. Data collection began in December 2000 and concluded in the autumn of 2004.

The aim of creating the contemporary lexicon was to provide as complete a record as possible of individuals who are important to our national community from various perspectives. However, due to the specific circumstances of Hungarians in Vojvodina, we considered it important to also present the life paths and efforts of those who, rather than through their professional achievements, can serve as role models for others through their daily perseverance and commitment.

The desire for individual advancement and service to the community are equally important components of any healthy society. Unfortunately, this value system has been disrupted in our region, and for many, the view that community engagement has no value or meaning has become dominant. Despite all this, as the lexicon reveals, Hungarians in Vojvodina can boast significant intellectual achievements and have not been left without people who care deeply about the fate of the community. There have been and still are many who sought a purpose and meaning in their lives beyond their individual well-being, and who, due to their achievements and/or social engagement and political steadfastness, deserve to be remembered and more highly valued by our Hungarian community in Vojvodina.
