Being a child of humble origins, he only attended elementary school, completing the first two grades of high school in evening classes in Novi Sad in the 1950s. He worked as a servant in a boarding school, as a brick and brewery worker, as a bricklayer, and for various entrepreneurs. Between 1943 and 1946, he was a day laborer at the local railway workshop, after which he began his journalistic career. He worked for Magyar Szó until 1951, for 7 Nap from 1951 to 1960, and for Radio Novi Sad from 1960 to 1982, where he served as a film critic. He was featured in the anthology Téglák, barázdák.
