He completed primary school in Kanjiza, attended high school in Novi Sad, then transferred to the teacher training college in Subotica. He worked as a journalist for Novi Sad Radio, Magyar Szo, and 7 Nap. He was editorial secretary at the Serbian journal Rukovet in Subotica. For several years, he was a book agent for the Forum Publishing Institute in Novi Sad. In the late 1980s, he founded a private book distribution and publishing company in Kanjiza.
