Ethnographic Collections – Ethnographic Collection in Vojlovica

The Tamási Áron Székely–Hungarian Cultural Association of Hertelendyfalva has been nurturing and preserving the dialect, traditions, and customs of the Székely people of Bukovina settled along the Lower Danube. The ethnographic collection maintained by the association is composed entirely of donations from local residents and is housed in a newly built building completed in 2019. In both its layout and proportions, the building reflects the architectural characteristics typical of the village, while at the same time providing space that meets modern requirements and supports the association’s other areas of activity. The collection—some elements of which arrived together with the settlers who migrated from Bukovina—has been arranged in three rooms: the so-called „clean room“, a kitchen, and a living room. The ensemble of objects vividly reflects the highly developed textile culture of the Székely people of Bukovina: on the beds are rows of pillows decorated with Székely embroidered motifs, and the tables are covered with homemade woven tablecloths.
